Rowene “Sis” C. Waldera

Rowene “Sis” Caroline Waldera, 79, of Taylor, died Sunday, December 10, 2023, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.

Rowene was born December 16, 1943, in Whitehall, to Palmer and Cecil (Hestekin) Lee. She married Richard Peter Waldera, April 18, 1964, at Saint Ansgar’s Catholic Church in Blair. Richard preceded Rowene in death, January 7, 2017.

Richard and Rowene owned and operated Dick’s Bar in Taylor, from 1963 – 1995. When not working, she enjoyed camping throughout Wisconsin, gathering with family and friends, occasional trips to the casino and stopping at every local rummage sale for the deal of the day, or on an adventure with Dorothy riding shotgun. She could be seen courtside or in the bleachers of the sporting events involving her children and grandchildren. Rowene had the best sense of humor, infectious laughter and probably was best known by the faces she made and the one liners often used on her children. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her great joy and happiness.

Rowene is survived by three children: Brian (Lynn) Waldera of De Forest, Tarry (Dawn) Waldera of Blair and Kelly (Dave) Flick of Taylor; seven grandchildren: Jeffrey (friend, Breanna) Klevgard, Benjamin (friend, Kevin) Waldera, Rachael (Joshua) Greenwold, Caleb (fiancée, Lydia) Waldera, Cody Waldera, Josie Waldera and Jessica Waldera; four great-grandchildren: Deagan, Paislee, Kelson and Nashtyn; and her best friend, Dorothy Janzen of Taylor.

In addition to her parents and husband, Rowene was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford.

A Mass of Christian burial was held Monday, December 18, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at Saint Ansgar’s Catholic Church in Blair. Father Zacharie Beya officiated.

Visitation was held Sunday, December 17, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Jack Funeral Home in Blair and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
