Indee boys win two, fall to Eagles

The Independence/Gilmanton boys basketball team doubled its win total last week before suffering a Dairyland Conference loss.

The Indees began the week with a 65-40 win at Greenwood last week Monday. On Tuesday, I/G picked up its first Dairyland Conference win of the season, besting Augusta, 58-46. No further information from either game was made available to the Times. I/G’s week ended with a 72-41 loss to Alma/Pepin in Gilmanton.

I/G (4-17, 1-9) played at Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran on Friday and will return home to Independence next week Thursday to face Alma Center Lincoln.

The Indees had a 14-7 lead early, but the Eagles fired back and took control of the game before halftime.

A/P eventually tied the game at 21 with a three pointer then took the lead for good, scoring with 6:18 remaining in the first half. The Eagles ended the half with a 17-1 run, taking a 35-22 lead into halftime.

The Eagles went ahead by 20 about five minutes into the second half and continued to pull away for the lopsided win. 

A/P shot 47.6 from the field in the game, while I/G finished with a 32.5 percent mark. 

Brandon Sylla led the Indees with 10 points. The Eagles had five players finish in double figures, led by Madox Stewart’s 16.
