Indees shut out Mustangs

It was another strong performance on the mound for Independence/Gilmanton as the team picked up its second shutout win of the season on Friday.

The Indees topped Melrose-Mindoro 4-0 on the road to improve to 2-0 on the season with the other win also being a shutout.

The teams were tied after seven innings before the Indees put up four runs in the top of the eighth. Nathan Pyka had a two-run hit, while Brandon Sylla and Nolan Schank also had RBIs in the inning.

Sylla pitched seven shutout innings for the Indees, striking out 13 without allowing a run. However, Chase Back ended up getting the win because he pitched the eighth inning.

Sylla and Pyka both had two hits in the game.

I/G was slated to play at Pepin/Alma on Tuesday of this week before its home opener against Whitehall on Friday. They’re set to host Eau Claire Regis this coming Monday before playing at Blair-Taylor next Tuesday.
