Jumper leads county golfers in two Coulee meets

The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School junior Nic Jumper led both G-E-T and Arcadia in two Coulee Conference meets, the first last Tuesday at Castle Rock Golf Course and another in Black River Falls on Thursday.

The Coulee Conference championship was set for this Tuesday at Drugan’s Castle Mound. Both G-E-T and Arcadia joined other county teams for an invitational in Black River Falls on Wednesday.

Last Tuesday, Jumper carded a 40 at the par-35 Castle Rock Golf Course, a score that was beaten only by Westby junior Brooks Hoffland.

Westby took home the team title in the event with 168 points, with Black River Falls’ 170 and West Salem’s 172 points coming in second and third. Jumper helped the Red Hawks to fourth place with 181 strokes, Luther followed with 185 and Arcadia posted 188. Wonewoc-Center rounded out the scores at 196.

Arcadia junior Kaiden Rotering shot a 44 to post the 12th best round of the day. Teammate Joey Theis was right behind him with a 45, Arcadia also received a 49 from Stryder Miller as well as a 50 from Carson Schultz and a 51 from Simon Haines.

Maddox Scow carded a 44 for G-E-T, senior Mason Kromrey added a 48 for the Red Hawks, and Aiden Johnson and Brandon Van Vreede had matching 49s to close out the Red Hawks’ scores.

On Thursday, again it was Jumper near the top of the leaderboard — the junior tied with three other golfers who posted 41s at Skyline Golf Course behind Black River Falls freshman Sam Aebly, who was the medalist with his 4-over-par 40.

Scow followed his Red Hawk teammate closely on Thursday, his 43 good enough for eighth. Miller shot a 46 for the Raiders, and Rotering contributed with a 47. Theis scored a 49, Schultz shot a 54 and junior Alex Russel closed the round with a 67.

Van Vreede’s 48 was the third-best round of any G-E-T golfer, and the Red Hawks also got a 50 from Olson, a 51 from Johnson and a 54 from Kromrey.
