Raider baseball falls in four
Tough battles with two Coulee Conference teams and a pair of tournament losses filled a busy schedule for the Arcadia High School baseball team last week.
Arcadia was beaten by Westby, one of the top Coulee teams, last Monday before falling to rival G-E-T at home on Friday (see story elsewhere in sports). A pair of tournament games closed the week for the Raiders (3-14, 1-9 Coulee)
The Raiders are scheduled for more conference play this week as they headed to Black River Falls (5-7, 3-6 Coulee) on Tuesday and are set to visit Onalaska Luther (10-8, 5-5 Coulee) on Thursday.
Westby 7 Arcadia 1
The Norse had an answer after Arcadia tied last Monday’s conference game 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning—the visitors scored six runs over the final three innings to win.
Prestin Scow scored the Raiders’ run on a sacrifice fly from Max Blaschko, but a pair of walks and back-to-back hits from the Norse gave the visitors a 4-1 lead in their next at-bat.
Ben Lightfoot finished with two of Arcadia’s three hits on the night. Max Sobotta pitched six innings for the Raiders, striking out eight Westby batters while walking two.
Devin Nedland, who also led Westby (11-4, 8-2 Coulee) with two hits, picked up the win with 11 strikeouts and three hits allowed.
B-W 3 Arcadia 2
All the scoring occurred in the first two innings during Saturday’s tournament game.
Arcadia was limited to two hits, while Sobotta got the start. Sobotta struck out five Baldwin-Woodville batters and gave up seven hits with no walks.
SCC 2 Arcadia 1
St. Croix Central (10-3 this season) of the Middle Border Conference got the better of Arcadia in another low-scoring game last weekend.
