Holthaus huge as Red Hawks cruise in regional victory
Nathan Holthaus had no issues from either view of home plate for Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau in last Thursday’s 11-0 regional playoff victory.
Holthaus pitched a no-hitter from the mound for the G-E-T High School baseball team on a night he also smashed a home run. The Red Hawks needed only five innings to earn their first win in the 2024 WIAA Division Two postseason.
Eleven hits on offense and eight runs in the second inning—along with Holthaus’ no-hitter on defense — provided a winning formula for the Red Hawks last Thursday.
Jackson Burns hit three-for-four for G-E-T, which got a pair of hits and a home run from Holthaus. Calvin Davis also had two, including a triple, as seven different players recorded hits.
Holthaus pitched the no-hitter while striking out three Ellsworth batters and walking four.
The ninth-seeded Red Hawk team advanced to visit St. Croix Central (14-4 this season), the number one team in the regional and the 15th-best team in Wisconsin, on Tuesday.
The winner of Tuesday’s game will play in the regional final this Wednesday against the winner of 12th-seed Tomah and four-seed Aquinas.
