The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School girls golf team is back in action after a pair of events last week.

The Red Hawks opened the year with the Tomah Tune-Up last Monday and swung back into action on Tuesday with a home meet at Trempealeau Mountain Golf Course. Scores for Tuesday’s meet were not reported before press time.

More golf awaits G-E-T this week, one that began with an invitational at Drugan’s Castle Mound Golf Course in Holmen on Tuesday and continues with an invitational at Northern Bay Golf Course this Thursday.

Tomah Tune-Up

The first competition of 2024 saw 24 teams gather at Hiawatha Golf Club last Monday, and among them were numerous state powers.

Two of the top teams in Wisconsin from last fall appear ready for another strong season in 2024, as Prescott — the four-time defending state champion in Division Two — won Monday’s event with 321 strokes.

Tomah (324) finished second at their home meet last week after qualifying for the Division One state tournament last year.

Belle Kongshaug, a junior from Colfax-Elk Mound and defending Division One individual state champion, was the top golfer last week with an even-par 72. Tomah’s Karma Hasselberger was second with her 73.

The Red Hawks finished 23rd on Tuesday and were led by a 129 from junior Jazlynn Olson. Maddie Ruud shot a 144, Claire Wagner carded a 150 and Julia Baures finished with a 162.
