G-E-T offense goes silent in loss to Mauston

The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau girls basketball team would’ve hoped that a game in the friendly confines of their home gym might lead to better results than their first two games of the season. Instead, the Red Hawks had their toughest night yet, especially on the offensive end.
The Mauston Golden Eagles (2-1) came into town and held the Red Hawks (0-3) to single digits in a lopsided 57-9 affair last Tuesday in Galesville.
While it was a difficult night offensively for G-E-T all throughout its home opener, the first half in particular was filled with frustrations. The Golden Eagles scored the first 24 points of the evening, and it wasn’t until sophomore Joshlyn Lunsford’s free throw with 7:50 remaining in the opening half that the Red Hawks finally got on the board.
At the halftime break, Mauston held a 35-1 advantage. G-E-T got a little more traction during the second half, but even then, the Golden Eagles held a 22-8 scoring edge over the final 18 minutes of the game.
Juniors Amara Brantner and Lorrisa Thompson and sophomore Bella Tibbits all scored two points apiece for the Red Hawks in the defeat.
Mauston leaders included Ella Franek with 14 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double, Bre Heller with 13 points, Catie Lavold with 12 points and Kylie Heller with 11 points.
G-E-T hosts La Crosse Logan (0-2) in non-conference action on Tuesday evening, then heads out onto the road this Friday for its Coulee opener against the Luther Knights (1-1) in Onalaska.
