Raiders earn senior night win during regular season’s final week

In the last week of the regular season, the Arcadia boys basketball team picked up a senior night win that guaranteed them a winning record for the 2024-25 campaign.

The Raiders finished off a season sweep of Viroqua on the night where they honored their six senior players. Over the weekend, they fell victim to Coulee champion West Salem in a makeup game that had been previously postponed due to winter weather.

No. 4 seed Arcadia (13-11) earned a first-round bye in the Division 3 playoffs and will host either No. 5 seed Stanley-Boyd or No. 12 seed Wautoma in the regional semifinals Friday at 7 p.m. A win and the Raiders advance to the regional finals the following night to play No. 1 seed Elk Mound, No. 8 seed Altoona or No. 9 seed Omro.

A strong second half propelled Arcadia to a senior night victory over the Blackhawks (7-17, 2-10 Coulee) last Thursday at the Wanek Center.

After trailing 30-27 at the halftime intermission, the Raiders found themselves down seven in the early minutes of the second half. However, they responded with an 11-0 run that allowed them to seize the lead and they never looked back the rest of the way.

A balanced Arcadia scoring attack included Deklyn Grzadzielewski with 16 points, Kaiden Rotering and Ted Teske with 14 each and Carter Wegman with eight. Viroqua’s Benson McDowell led all scorers with 22 points.

The Raiders also won the prior Jan. 24 matchup in Viroqua 75-72.

The West Salem Panthers (17-6, 11-1) put the finishing touches on their latest conference championship campaign with a win over the Raiders this past Saturday in Arcadia.

Rotering and Wegman each tallied seven points to lead the way for Arcadia in the loss. West Salem leading scorers included Kyle Hehli, Brennon Anderson, Nathan Dillaber and Will Schmidt with 11 points apiece and Drew McConkey with 10.

The Raiders finish the regular season with a 5-7 mark in Coulee play that gave them solo possession of fourth in the final conference standings.
