With the graduation of prolific scorer Cody Schmitz at the end of last year, the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau boys basketball team needed someone to step up into a leading role for the 2024-25 season.

The Red Hawks didn’t have to look any further than Mason Brone, who answered the call and became G-E-T’s leader on the court during a successful winter campaign.

For his efforts, Brone garnered a spot on the All-Coulee first team, improving on his second-team honor from last season as a sophomore. This year, Brone averaged a team-high 19.2 points per game on 48.4 percent shooting from the field, along with hitting 32.8 percent from three-point range and 75.2 percent at the free-throw line.

Additionally, Brone dished out a career-high and conference-leading 6.7 assists per game. He will enter his senior season already owning the G-E-T program record for career assists with 422.

West Salem senior Kyle Hehli was named the 2025 Coulee Player of the Year following a season where he put up 21.0 points, 5.2 assists and 2.2 steals per game. Hehli finishes his career with 1,398 points. The Panthers went 11-1 in Coulee play to capture their fourth consecutive conference championship.

Black River Falls sophomore Braylon Backaus was the conference’s leading scorer at 23.8 points per game and was named to the All-Coulee first team as well. Onalaska Luther senior Will Huelskamp (17.3 points per game, 8.9 rebounds per game) and Viroqua senior Benson McDowell (13.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists per game) also ended their high school basketball careers with first-team honors.

G-E-T senior Jackson Burns found his way onto the All-Coulee second team after registering 13.5 points and 6.6 rebounds per game for the Red Hawks this season. His fellow second-team honorees were West Salem seniors Carter Pontius and Devin Nedland, West Salem junior Nathan Dillaber and Luther senior Synclair Byus.

Local All-Coulee honorable mentions were seniors Kaiden Rotering and Ted Teske and freshman Deklyn Grzadzielewski for Arcadia along with senior Brecken Ebersold for G-E-T.
