John M. Scarseth

John Milton Scarseth, 77, son of Milton Bernard Scarseth and Jean Sacia Scarseth, died March 5, 2025, at the home of his brother, Paul, in Woodstock, GA.

John grew up in the Hardies Creek area of the county, being baptized and confirmed at Hardies Creek Lutheran Church. He loved working on his parent’s farm, located at the intersection of State 54 and County Road DD. Working with animals, and especially the team of horses, Queen and Dick gave him great joy.

While attending G-E-T High School, he thoroughly enjoyed playing linebacker on the undefeated school football team of the mid-60s. John was a lifelong Packers, Badgers, Brewers, and Vikings and Twins fan.

In 1967, John enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in the Vietnam War as a medic in the 1st Calvary, 2d Squadron, HHT. He was honorably discharged with the rank of SP5.

For many years John worked in NYC repairing shoes, eventually he owned his own shoe repair business on Lexington Ave. He took great pride in his work, being very fond of his customers.

John is survived by his sister, Jean of Brooklyn, NY; and his brothers: Paul of Woodstock and Steven of Ithaca, NY.; and by his nieces: Atsede of Colorado, Emily Perkins of Madison, WI, Jane Glynn of Madison, and Lisa Johnson of WI. He is also survived by nephews, Don and Mike Gylnn of Madison, WI. John’s ex-wife is Rena H. Huff of Wisconsin.

A funeral service will be held Friday, October 3, 2025, at 11:15 a.m., led by Pastor John Ashland at Hardies Creek Lutheran Church. All are welcome to attend. Memorials may be sent to Hardies Creek Lutheran, N18481 County Rd. DD, Ettrick, WI 54627.
