BRF running away with Coulee golf title

Going into the final week of Coulee Conference boys golf mini meets before the 18-hole conference championship, it’s looking like the Black River Falls Tigers are well on their way to winning the league title.

The Tigers picked up their fourth win in five mini meets with a decisive win last Monday at Viroqua Hills Golf Course, posting a team score of 162 to finish nine strokes clear of Westby/Viroqua and Hillsboro/Royall in a tie for second at 171. The rest of the standings had West Salem (174) in fourth, Onalaska Luther (177) in fifth, G-E-T (184) in sixth and Arcadia (185) in seventh.

Black River Falls has accrued 66 team points, 24 clear of West Salem in second with 42. For comparison, the Panthers are only 16 points ahead of seventh-place Arcadia.

Arcadia sophomore Landon Jaszewski continues to set the pace atop the individual standings with 83 points through five mini meets, ahead of BRF junior Sam Aebly (78) as well as Luther sophomore Robert Bruns and Hillsboro/Royall freshman Luke Holthe (77.5) in a tie for third.

Last week at Viroqua Hills, Holthe fired a two-under 34 to finish three strokes clear of Bruns in second with his 37. Aebly finished third after firing a 38 while Jaszewski, BRC senior Chris Antonelli and West Salem junior Noah Wachter wound up in a three-way tie for fourth at 39.

Outside of Jaszewski, juniors Tharren Schock and Brogan Solberg each shot a 48 and freshman Hayden Hughes had a 50 for the Raiders.

G-E-T senior Kylan Olson and junior Braydan Van Vreede each carded a 44 to lead the way for their team, with junior McGuire Slaby a stroke behind after shooting a 45. The Red Hawks also had three players with a 51: senior Aiden Johnson, junior Isaiah Ruesgen and freshman Thomas Hovell.

The final Coulee mini meet of the spring is set for Thursday at Skyline Golf Club in Black River Falls starting at 4:30 p.m. The Coulee Conference Championship will take place Tuesday starting at noon at River Run Golf Course in Sparta.
