G-E-T puts up valiant fight in Aquinas loss
The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau football team put up strong fight during their rescheduled homecoming game but ultimately could not pull off the upset against Aquinas.
Coming off a narrow 34-28 win over Black River Falls the week prior, the Blugolds (4-1, 2-1 Coulee) ground out a tough 20-7 win over the Red Hawks (1-4, 1-2) during the latter’s homecoming game last Thursday in Galesville. Like many high school football games across Wisconsin, the matchup between G-E-T and Aquinas was moved to Thursday due to expected inclement weather this past Friday.
G-E-T sophomore quarterback Brady Hansen connected with senior Isaiah Carroll for a 32-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, though the Blugolds also scored a pair of touchdowns in that quarter to hold a 14-7 advantage at halftime. Aquinas added an additional touchdown in the third quarter and blanked the Red Hawks in the second half to secure the victory.
Hansen completed five of nine passes for 108 yards, a touchdown and an interception while also rushing for 74 yards on a team-high 22 carries. In addition to his touchdown reception, Carroll added 47 yards on the ground on 15 carries. Junior Chase Repaal was the team’s leading receiver with three catches for 66 yards.
Defensively for G-E-T, senior Kobee DeYoung was involved on 10 total tackles and fellow senior Braden Peterson had four solo tackles, including a tackle for loss.
Aquinas junior running back Luke Jones set the pace for his team in the win, racking up 155 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 15 carries. Senior Michael Jones added a nine-yard rushing for the Blugolds.
The Red Hawks are on the road for Week 6, where they will square off against the Black River Falls Tigers (1-4, 1-2) on Friday at 7 p.m.
