Annette “Chris” (Christianson) Deeren

Annette “Chris” (Christianson) Deeren, 71, of Iola, TX, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, Sunday, February 14, 2021, after a 2½-year battle with esophageal cancer.

Chris, as she was called by all, was born August 25, 1949, to Francis and Theresa (Sheehy) Christianson, the oldest of nine children. She grew up in Ettrick, and graduated from Gale-Ettrick High School in 1967.

After high school, Chris worked briefly for the FBI in Washington D.C. as a Finger Print Analyst and for Marinuka Manor Nursing home in Galesville. In 1970, she married Gary Deeren in Ettrick and was blessed with four children. In 1977, Gary and Chris moved their family to Texas. There she became the first woman to graduate (2nd in her class) from the police academy at the Brazos County Sheriff’s Dept. She went on to become a Jail Administrator in Brazos County. Chris retired as the Jail Administrator of the Grimes County Sheriff’s department.

Chris is survived by her husband, Gary; children: Tracy (Ben) Crenshaw, Brent (Mary) Deeren, Brad (Jennifer) Deeren, Jody (Cody) Clemens; and 10 grandchildren: Andrew & Adam Crenshaw, Brendon (Kaci), Kloi & Seth Deeren, Aaron & Austin Deeren, and Addison, Zoey & Emma Clemens. She is also survived by her brothers: Doug (Jackie) Christianson, Terry (Jan) Christianson, John (Sheryl) Christianson, Darrell Christianson; sisters: Mary (Randy) Reisbig, Dorothy Thompson, Lori (Sheldon) Marthaler; father-in-law, Gordon Deeren; brothers-in-law: Dan (Sue) Deeren, Rick Deeren; sister-in-law, Pam Remus; as well as many nieces & nephews.

Chris was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Dennis; brother-in-law, John Thompson; nieces: Kristi Thompson, Rachael Reisbig; and mother-in-law, Alvina Deeren.

Memorials may be given to the Esophageal Cancer Education Foundation or one of your own choosing. No services will be held at this time. A Celebration of Life will occur sometime this summer in remembrance of Chris.
