Arvid “Arv” Evenson
On August 19, 2025, our beloved dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa, Arvid Evenson quietly said goodbye and peacefully made his journey to Heaven. He was a charmed and gentle man whose humble personality, witty sense of humor and genuine kindness will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Born May, 25, 1930, in the height of The Depression Era, to Art and Emma (Engen) Evenson, Arv was an only child. He grew up and walked many days upon farming land and it was on the family farm where he spent most of his life doing the job that the Lord gave him. Hand-in-hand with the love of his life, Mildred “Pat” (Powers) Evenson, they built a life together that grew with love for 42 years until Pat’s passing in 2001. We are comforted in knowing that she was there to welcome him with open arms and a table full of food when he arrived at the gates of Heaven.
During their time together here on Earth, Arv and Pat shared a love of farming, family, friends, and fellowship. They travelled with friends George and Eileen, and Don and Norma. Their home was the gathering place for many games of card playing with Pat’s siblings and their spouses. Oh, how Arv loved to play cards and Darrell & Sue treated him as family when he made his daily pilgrimage to Mike’s Bar for cards and coffee.
Arvid enjoyed hunting, and his annual trip out to Ismay, MT, with Don and George, was something he always looked forward to. The trip was not complete without several games of Fill-or-Bust with Ismay friends who have become family. During the last few years, he was able to hunt, Kevin and Paul were fortunate to join in on the adventure.
Above all, Arvid was most proud of his family. He is loved by his children: Donna (John) Bortle of Whitehall, WI, Kevin (Donna) Evenson and Paul Evenson of Galesville, WI; his grandchildren: Cami (Lucas) Hanson, Kylee (John) Bautch, Tyler (Callie) Bortle, Dylan (Lindsey) Evenson, Kenzee (Alex) Byom, Hunter (special friend Megan) Evenson, and Reggie (special friend Clare) Evenson; his great grandchildren: Alexandra, Reese, Mason, Rylan, Maverick, Huck, Larkyn, Hollis, Maddux, Hacher, Hardy and Jack.
He will also be missed by his sister through love, Nancy Powers of Redwing, MN, and brother through love, John “Jack” Hammond of Onalaska, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with the beautiful love of his life, he was greeted in Heaven by his parents; Pat’s parents; and his sisters and brothers through love: Don and Tiny Pierce, Betty Hammond, Wiliam “Skip” Powers, Jackie Powers McFadden, Dorothy and Dick Eggenberger, Joe “Buster” Vanette Powers.
Arv was strong in his faith and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Galesville. It is here that we will celebrate his life on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Lunch will be served at Noon and he will be laid to rest by his bride with a private family burial at 2:00 p.m., at Evergreen Cemetery in Centerville.
Our love and thanks go out to the staff and residents of Marinuka Manor and the Gundersen Lutheran Hospice staff for the care and compassion that was shown to our dad.
