Avis Knutson

 

Avis Knutson, 95, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2024, surrounded by family, at her home in Pigeon Falls.

Avis was born at home, March 2, 1929, to Olger and Stella Thorson. She attended Pigeon Falls Elementary School, then went on to graduate from Whitehall High School.

Avis was united in marriage to Theron Knutson, November 23, 1950. They enjoyed bowling, playing golf and square dancing and their cottage in Rock Dam. Avis worked as an Administrative Assistant for the Fremstad Insurance Agency in Pigeon Falls for 42 years before retiring.

Born to Avis and Theron were two daughters: Sue Neilson, who passed away May 18, 2000, and Anne Bloom of Pigeon Falls.

Avis was very involved with her church, originally Pigeon Creek Lutheran Church, now Peace Lutheran Church of Pigeon Falls. She sang in the choir for many years, was a leader in Ladies Aide ( WELCA) activities, taught Sunday School and was part of the quilting ladies.

Avis was an excellent cook and baker with cookies as her specialty. She always enjoyed neighbor kids (big or small) stopping in for her cookies.

Avis will be forever remembered by her daughter, Anne Bloom; siblings: Mary (Bob) Johnson of Madison, Gerald (Marlette Kunz) Thorson of Pigeon Falls, Linda Trotter of Pigeon Falls; and brother-in-law, Doug England of Pigeon Falls; along with many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Avis was preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Wallace Thorson, Lois Duxbury, Lanice VanSlyke, and Beverly England; in-laws: Elaine and Arlan Knutson, Lavina and Harold Aanerud, Alan Skoyen, Doug Trotter, Ione Thorson, Lee VanSlyke, Richard Duxbury,

The funeral service for Avis will be held Thursday, May 30, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at Peace Lutheran Church of Pigeon Falls. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place at Pigeon Creek Cemetery.
