Bernard “Bernie” J. Beck
Bernard “Bernie” Jerome Beck, 91, of Hixton, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2024.
Bernard was born August 7, 1933, to Art and Alice Beck in Franklin, WI. He spent his childhood growing up on the family farm where he learned the value of hard work. Bernie served in the U.S. Army from 1955–1958, and was stationed abroad. While he was in London, England, he met the love of his life, Shirley Hatch. When he returned to the U.S., he later sent for her. They married on December 23, 1961, in Racine. In 1962, the couple moved to Franklin and later moved to Curran Valley in Hixton. During this time, they had three wonderful children: Sue, Steve and Sandy. Bernie & Shirley enjoyed traveling to England and around the U.S. to visit family and friends.
Throughout his life, Bernie worked in logging, at American Motors in Racine, construction out West, and in roofing and farming. Bernie was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting and fishing where he enjoyed making memories with his kids and grandkids. Bernie also took pleasure in traveling with friends and family. You could always count on him bringing home a good story to share. Bernie was quite a jokester and got a big kick out of himself!
After Shirley passed away in 2013, a part of his heart left too. He found a special relationship with Joyce Huseboe. They loved trips to the casino and many road trips throughout the Wisconsin countryside, with stops for lunch and ice cream. They both felt very lucky to have each other during this time in their lives.
Bernie is survived by his children: Sue Bradley of Ettrick, Steve (Norene) Beck of Blair and Sandy McDougall (Alan Grass) of Blair; six grandchildren: Jeremy (Alicia) Beck, Justin (Alisa) Bradley, Jessi (Cody) Stewart, Macy (Jordan) Tenneson, Jordan Bradley and Drew (Riley Reyez) McDougall; six great-grandchildren: Grace, Titus, Braelynn, Addison, Kash and Kole; his sweetheart, Joyce Huseboe; and a sister-in-law, Bonnie Beck.
Bernie was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his parents, Art and Alice; his in-laws, Tom and Mabel Hatch; his siblings: Norita Beck, James Beck and Lael (Eddie) Richter; and a sister-in-law, Audrey (Jerry) Knight.
In Celebration of Bernie’s life, friends and family were invited to a visitation, Thursday, December 19, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Taylor Lutheran Church in Taylor.
