Bernice “Bea” J. Skroch, 96, of Independence, died Sunday, September 10, 2023, surrounded by her children, at the Trempealeau County Health Care Center, rural Whitehall.
Bernice was born in rural Independence, July 9, 1927, to John and Frances (Miemietz) Klimek. Bea learned the value of hard work at a young age. She worked at various jobs waitressing, cooking, and serving school lunches, until working in housekeeping with the Trempealeau County Health Care Center where she was employed until her retirement in her early 70s. Bernice was united in marriage September 30, 1950, to Simon Robert “Bob” Skroch at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. To this union, the couple had five children. Bernice loved to decorate for, celebrate and entertain for all holidays, especially the Independence Ice Fishing Contest. She loved to watch her children and grandchildren during their sporting events, but also loved the Packers, Brewers and Badgers. Bernice was an avid cook and baker, loved to socialize downtown, and volunteered each year at SSPP’s Fall Festival. Bernice was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church where she served as a sacristant for many years. Her spunk, hard work and dedication to her faith and family will be truly missed by her loved ones.
