Betsy M. Clatt

Betsy Marie Clatt, 51, of Pigeon Falls, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully in her sleep, Tuesday, May 20, 2025, in her home.

Betsy was born May 7, 1974, in La Crosse, to David and Marie (Mitskogen) Clatt. She grew up in Whitehall, graduating from Whitehall Memorial Schools in 1992. Betsy attended Winona State University and graduated from UW–La Crosse, where she studied Sociology and Psychology.

Betsy found a fulfilling and noteworthy career in State service. She worked for Houston County’s Women’s Resource Center, Children’s Service Society of Wisconsin in Monroe County and Attic Correctional Services in Whitehall. Besty then became a Corrections Officer, working for the Buffalo, Jackson and Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Departments for 20 years. Recently, Betsy obtained her Social Worker license to continue a career in assisting the youth in our community and served as a Youth Justice Social Worker for Trempealeau County the past three years. She was so proud of this accomplishment.

Betsy was a Type 1 Diabetic, which presented challenges during her life. However, the medical diagnosis never stopped her from living the life she wanted.

Betsy was known for her strong will, empathy toward others, and had an unwavering determination to love and support her family and friends. She held a special bond with her three nieces, caring for them like her own. She also created lasting bonds with her co-workers and their children and was known to be Aunt Betsy to many. Her life was blessed with having so many genuine connections and long-lasting friendships with others.

Betsy was one of a kind. Her radiant smile lit up any room she entered and for those that knew her, know she lived life to the fullest. She enjoyed socializing with countless friends, traveling, motorcycling, spending time “up north” and was considered a member of many families, particularly the Frie family. Betsy’s compassionate heart never turned down an animal in need of a home and cared for many animal companions throughout her life: dogs, cats, ferrets, goats, fish, birds and even a mouse. Especially her beloved, Goliath, Tank and Gus. She also loved having and growing plants.

Betsy is survived by her parents, David and Marie Clatt of Whitehall; two brothers: Mathew (Kim) of Whitehall, Michael (Sarah) of Eau Claire; three nieces: Brenna, Ashlyn and Regan Clatt; grandmother, Mavis Mitskogen of Blair; aunts: Julie Hanson (Michael) of Black River Falls, Bonnie Moen of Winona, MN and Mona Brindley (Tom) of Mindoro.

Betsy was preceded in death by her grandfathers: Belah Mitskogen and Henry “Gee” Clatt; grandmother, Adeline Clatt; uncle, Brian Mitskogen; and cousin, Amanda Oseth.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 4:00 p.m., at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Whitehall with Mr. Scott W. Brown officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
