Brian G. Vick
Brian Gordon Vick, known to many as Pruitt, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at the age of 59.
Brian was born December 28, 1964, in Decorah, IA, to Gordon and Gloria (Barth) Vick. He was baptized April 17, 1965, at Decorah Lutheran Church. Brian was the youngest of six children. He grew up on a dairy farm where his love for animals began. As a boy, he almost always had a dog at his heels. Each Thursday at the Livestock Market, Brian would get two cheeseburgers, one for himself and one for his dog.
Brian attended Westside Elementary School in Decorah, IA. In 1977, when Brian was in 6th grade, his parents purchased the Lewiston Sales Barn and the family moved to Lewiston, MN. Brian graduated from Lewiston High School in 1984. During high school, he met the love of his life, Charla Ann Fortsch, whom he would eventually marry, September 19, 1987, at Immanuel Lutheran Church - Silo in Lewiston, MN.
Brian and Charla started their married life together in a small house in Altura, MN. During this time, Brian worked with his family at the salesbarn and on a dairy farm for Everett Kreidermacher. While living in Altura, Brian and Charla had four children, but quickly ran out of room after welcoming baby number four. They moved to the country on a farmstead outside of Lewiston, MN, with 10 acres, where Brian could have the hobby farm he always dreamed of.
The Lewiston Sales Barn was a big part of Brian’s life. At the barn, he tended to the livestock and managed the movement of cattle through the auction. Brian’s two sons, Zach and Grant, spent most of their childhood with their dad at the salesbarn where they learned all about the family business. The three of them eventually purchased the salesbarn where Brian continued to work until he physically couldn’t anymore.
Besides his love for animals and the farm, Brian also enjoyed bowling, watching sports, playing cards, county fairs and attending auctions. He could often be found enjoying a Mich Golden at the American Legion on the weekends, playing cards with friends or playing his luck with pull tabs. Brian also loved his community, he was a very kind and giving man.
Brian is survived by his wife, Charla; his four children: Kayla (Mark) Roebke, Janelle (Carl) Eberle, Zachary (Anna) Vick, and Grant Vick (Sophie Scruggs); his four grandchildren: Annabelle Roebke, Madelyn Roebke, Henrik Eberle, and Levi Vick; his mother, Gloria Vick; and siblings: Cindy (John) Reynolds, Mark (Vicki) Vick, Kristi (Dean) Reps, Roxanne (John) Hungerholt; and brother-in-law, Lee Hackman; his in-laws: Claudette Fortsch, Allen (Gloria) Fortsch Jr., Alanna (Tod) Kieffer, Jim Fortsch, Teresa Fortsch, Carolee (Roger) Bronk, Jerry Fortsch, Jana (Terry) Prigge, and Chad (Chris) Fortsch; and many nieces and nephews.
