Danielle “Dani” Kuka

The world lost a beautiful soul on Sunday, May 3, 2020. Danielle “Dani” Kuka, 34, left this earth, surrounded by family, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Dani had a kind and beautiful soul and would help anyone with anything, even while fighting her battle. She is an inspiration to many, and kept a positive attitude and a smile, no matter what the doctors told her. When she was told nothing more could be done, her only concern was making sure her daughter, Jasmine, would be taken care of. Jasmine and Dani’s fiancé, Matt, were her whole world, and she loved both of them fiercely.

Dani was born September 17, 1985, to Tammy Getter and Duane Kuka. Dani graduated from Blair-Taylor High School in 2004, and enlisted in the U.S. Army. She loved the military life. She was stationed in Hanau, Germany, and loved it. Dani was honorably discharged in 2008. While in Germany, her daughter Jasmine was born. After her discharge, Dani came back to Blair and got an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice. She realized that this wasn’t the career she wanted and, at the time of her illness, was a Customer Service Specialist at Ashley Furniture.

Dani will be missed by her daughter, Jasmine of Blair; mother, Tammy Getter of Blair; her father, Duane (Sandy) Kuka of Taylor; brother, Andrew of Blair; sister, Dana of Taylor; grandmothers: Loretta Kuka of Arcadia and Janice Getter of Tomah; step-grandmother, Darlene “Nana” Meyer of Pigeon Falls; fiancé and the love of her life, Matt Nerby of Ettrick; mother-in-law, Sue Nerby; aunts and uncles: Nancy (Donald) Hanson of Black River Falls, Donnie (Melody) Getter of Sparta, Peggy (Terry) Feran of La Crosse, Bev (Norman) Hoch of Arcadia, David (Rita) Kuka of Independence, and Betty (Al) Baker of Arcadia; and many cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her two grandfathers: Bernard Getter and Marcus “Starz” Kuka; baby brother, Seth Kuka; step-grandfather, Wayne “Papa” Meyer; cousin, Corey Meyer; uncle: Robert Getter; aunt: Judy Getter; and special great-aunt, Joyce Weaver.

There will be a graveside service Saturday, May 23, 2020, at 11:00 a.m., at Trempealeau Valley Cemetery in rural Taylor. Father Woody Pace will officiate. Full Military Honors will be presented by Knudtson-Mattison American-Legion Post #231.

Memorials be directed to Cervical Cancer research or the Disabled American Veterans organization: DAV State Headquarters, 1253 Scheuring Road, Suite A, De Pere, WI 54115-1070.

Dani was a kind, gentle soul and was an inspiration to everyone she met for her dignity and grace and her positive attitude, no matter what was thrown at her. She was a big person in a small body.
