Darrell L. “Hooker” Kleppen

Darrell L. “Hooker” Kleppen, 78, of Blair, died Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at Mulder Health Care Facility in West Salem.

Darrell was born April 19, 1947, to Alvin and Gladys (Skundberg) Kleppen. He married Joan Radcliffe, August 31, 1974. Darrell was a devoted family man, truck driver, butcher and a proud member of the Ettrick Lions Club. He will be remembered by all that knew him for his legendary humor, extraordinary kindness and generous spirit.

Darrell’s work ethic was as strong as his handshake. He had a long successful career as a heavy hauler for Lunda Construction, 34 years, and became known as Lunda’s #1 Prime Hauler. He loved the open road but was always dedicated to getting home to his family.

In addition to his time on the road, he was a skilled butcher, known for his precision, as well as the stories and jokes he would tell his customers.

For many years Darrell was a cornerstone of the Ettrick Lions Club, serving the community with a big heart and an unwavering commitment to helping others. Whether he was organizing a fund raiser, volunteering at an event, especially a tractor pulls or simply lending a hand, his fellow Lions and community could always count on him. His generosity was second nature, extending to countless individuals throughout his life.

When he was not driving semi or at Butcher Hollow, he could be found in a skid steer, spending countless hours doing tasks around the farm.

Darrell had an uncanny ability to find the bright side of any situation and leave anyone in his path with a smile on their face. His kindness was profound. He was often the first to help and the last to ask for credit. Darrell was such a great man, one of a kind. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter that will never be forgotten.

Darrell is survived by his beloved wife Joan; children: Rick and Patty, Jason, Lisa and Todd; grandchildren: Ryan, Steven, Harley (Spencer), Blake, Jersey, KiKi and Ezra; also five great-grandchildren.

Darrel was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Cole Anderson.
