Delores “Dee” Hare

Delores “Dee” Hare, 97, of Trempealeau, passed away Friday, August 30, 2024 at Mayo Health Care System after a short illness.

Dee was born November 14, 1926, in Winona, MN, to John and Helen (Stroinske) Prodzinski. Dee married her husband of 72 years, Howard Hare, April 29, 1947, at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Trempealeau. They started life together in Galesville, eventually moving to California for a short time. A move back to French Island (La Crosse) in 1959 led to a move to Trempealeau in 1967.

Dee was involved in many activities. She volunteered at Marinuka Manor nursing home for 30 years. Many Good Fridays would find her, along with friends and family, coloring eggs there. Afterwards, a snack of refreshments and Bloedow’s donuts would be served (Sponsored by the VFW Auxiliary). She was a member of VFW Auxiliary Post #1915, starting in 1968, and held several offices during that time. Dee was especially proud of her role selling poppies for Memorial Day. She served as chairperson of the Poppy Committee for 20 years.

Dee was also a lifelong member of St. Bartholomew’s Church and was very active in the PCCW. She would volunteer to work for various functions and provide food if needed. People were guaranteed to find something from Dee Hare if there was a bake sale.

For 20 years, she provided day care for many local families.

She enjoyed being outside. Fishing for panfish with her cane pole and worms in the Trempealeau lakes or working in the yard or garden were two of her favorite outdoor activities.

She is survived by her children: Bonita (Steve) Bigalk, Jack, Marilyn, Steve (Lori), Tom (Kathy); seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Catherine Scarborough.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and three sisters.

Mass and a Christian burial will be held Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Trempealeau. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Trempealeau. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. on Saturday until the time of service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice in Dee’s name.

Zwickey Funeral Home, Galesville Chapel, is assisting the family.
