Donald “Erik” Thompson

Erik Thompson, 42, of Blair, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2024, peacefully in his sleep, after a short, but very difficult battle with cancer.

Erik was born May 11, 1982, in La Crosse, to Donald and Karmon (Wier) Thompson. He was the youngest child and only son, growing up with his two older sisters.

Erik was a rambunctious and very energetic little boy when he was younger. He was always getting into something that he probably shouldn’t have been getting in to. He was very free spirited and not very shy back then. Erik was very much a typical boy. He always had a dirty face and when Mom would yell for him to come in and get it washed, out the door he would run! You could always find him out in the garage, smashing his hot wheels with a hammer so they could look like demo cars, or destroying our Barbie dolls.

As Erik grew up, he became more of a quiet, thoughtful young man. He was a very hard worker and loved his job working at the Trempealeau County Health Care Center, where he worked for the last 27 years.

Erik loved hanging out with his friends in the garage, but the things he loved most in life were his dogs and fishing. He had many dogs over the years and treated them like they were his children. Even in his last days, he was more worried about his dogs than himself. He loved fishing almost as much. When he was healthier, you could always find him fishing behind the house by the river, or out on his boat somewhere, usually with his dogs or his best friend, his stepfather, Keith.

Erik is survived by his father, Donald Thompson, of Winona; two sisters: Chrissy (Larry Adank) Thompson of Independence and Michelle Thompson of Blair; a niece, Kyra Fullington of Blair; a nephew, Camden Adank of Independence; and his fur babies: Maggie and Buddy.

Erik was preceded in death by his mother, Karmon Everson; his step-father, Keith Everson; both sets of grandparents and step-grandparents; an aunt, Rosalie Stadtler; an uncle, Armond Wier; and a step-uncle, Kenneth Everson.

He will be greatly missed by many.

Visitation was held Friday, September 27, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Jack Funeral Home in Blair.
