Edward “Ed” J. Matchey

 

Edward “Ed” James Matchey, 89, formerly of Independence, passed away peacefully at Gundersen Tri-County Hospital in Whitehall, Tuesday, February 21, 2023.

Ed was born October 10, 1933, to John and Verna (Roskos) Matchey. He married Doris Buchholz, June 15, 1957, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, in North Creek. Ed and Doris made their home in Elk Creek where they bought a dairy farm, which they loved and operated for many years. During that time, he also worked in road construction around the Eau Claire and south-central Wisconsin areas. Ed had a quick sense of humor and loved to socialize. He and Doris enjoyed playing cards and snowmobiling with their friends. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the Packers, playing cards with his kids and grandkids, bingo, and listening to country music.

Ed is survived by five children: Kathy Matchey Annibal of Blair, Lori (Randy Beckwith) Matchey of Chicago, Todd Matchey of Independence, Tamara “Tami” (Lawrence Schrock) Matchey of Blair, and Lisa (Richard) Schank of Kenosha; grandchildren: Austin (Courtney) Matchey, Jordan Matchey, Mercedes (Carson Wheeler) Matchey, Jayden (Riley Schneider) Matchey, Jacob (Olivia Krahn-Bockhop) Labatore, and Justin Labatore; sister, Darlene (Bernard) Sura; sisters-in-law: Pat Matchey, Margaret Matchey, and Beatrice (Donald) Suchla; brothers-in-law: Roger (Marietta) Buchholz and Allen Schwartz.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris; brothers: Alphonse (Bernice), Richard and Bernard Matchey; sisters: Marian Sosalla and Eleanore Bohlinger; sisters-in-law: Jean (Milford) Hermann, Lucille (Leonard) Pientok, LaVina (Orlyn) Anderson, La Vonne (Louis) Eggebrecht, and Barbara Schwartz; brothers-in-law: Richard (Jeanette) Buchholz and Emil Buchholz.

A funeral service for Ed will be held Friday, March 3, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at Wozney-Killian Funeral Home, 1378 East Wilson Avenue, Arcadia, Wisconsin, with Father Arturo Vigueras officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at St. Michael’s the Archangel Catholic Cemetery, North Creek, in rural Arcadia.
