Edwin “Ed” P. Quall
Edwin P. Quall, 53, passed away June 5, 2023, at his home in Woodbridge, VA. Ed was a loved son, a brother, an uncle, a friend and colleague.
Edwin or as we called him, Ed, was born October 5, 1969, in La Crosse. Ed grew up in Galesville, and graduated from Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School in 1987. Ed was a dedicated individual — to his family, his country and his job. He joined the U.S. Marines after high school and he served in Desert Storm. Ed was a proud Marine and he loved his country. After his time in the Marines, Ed returned to the Midwest and earned his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and computer science.
After earning his degree, he moved to the Washington D.C. area in 2002, and secured a job working for the Department of Justice-Interpol. Ed’s family came to learn from his “work family” that he was Edwin. It was recognized by many that Ed gave of himself entirely — he was all in. At the time of his passing, Ed served as an Assistant Director in the Interpol Operations and Command Center. It was shared by his coworkers that he was a “generous coworker, mentor and teacher. He was a fair boss and often more comfortable in the trenches of the Command Center doing the work rather than talking about it.” It was also shared with us that hundreds of people around the country, interns, contractors, staff and detailed law enforcement officers benefited from working with Edwin — whether through training, mentoring, technical expertise, intelligent guidance, kind advice, and heartfelt friendship, the impact of his loss is shared by many. In his work, he was able to be a part of many cases solved and impact the lives of people who he never met and never would, but that is exactly the type of person he was — helping others and making the work a better place. The family is very thankful for the connection and the role that those he worked with played in his life.
Ed was looking forward to retirement, hoping that, in the near future, he would be returning to the midwest to be closer to his family. On the rare occasions we would have him back in the Midwest, he enjoyed spending time with his family, often sharing with us all he had learned about and added to his research on the family tree. He will be missed by the many lives that he touched over the years.
Left to mourn his passing are his siblings: Laurie Murray, Pam Bisek, Lisa (Laverne) Massman, Darcy (Bobby) Russell and Mark Quall; as well as many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Lillian Quall; and brothers: Steven and Greg; sister, Denise; and nephew, Josh.
Time — we always want more! Our loss was unexpected and painful. However, time can not erase our memories or change our image of the person who we knew and loved. Ed will always be remembered as a dedicated, giving and thoughtful person. Ed, you are loved and missed!
A celebration of Ed’s life will be held Saturday, August 19, 2023, at the Gathering Place, 133 Mason Street, Onalaska. Friends and family may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. Military honors will follow at 12:45 p.m. with a luncheon at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to your local American Legion.
