Elwood “Al” I. Maudal

 

Elwood “Al” Ivar Maudal, 76, of Pigeon Falls, died Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Osseo.

Al was born November 26, 1947, in Wheaton, MN, to Ivar and Esther (Roser) Maudal. He married Sandra Nelson, July 8, 1972, in Whitehall. Al graduated from the Tintah High School in Tintah, MN, in 1965. He attended Fergus Falls Junior College and then graduated from Moorhead State University in Moorhead, MN, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. He completed his Master’s Degree in Mankato, MN.

Al taught at Whitehall School District for 34 years. He taught high school history and social problems and worked with the LMC/Library. He was middle school and elementary school principal and coached football, basketball and track.

Al enjoyed golfing, gardening and decorating for Christmas. He and his wife, Sandi, traveled many short trips to concerts and plays and looked forward to attending their granddaughter’s dance competitions and recitals.

Al is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sandra; two daughters: Jennifer (Jarrod) Fromm and Kimberly Maudal; a granddaughter, Aubrey; two sisters: Gail Maudal and Virginia Maudal; a niece, Sari (Tracey) Sutton and their children: Evy and Max; and a nephew, Kevin (Jessie Colbert) Kuppe and their children: Miles and Weston.

In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father–in-law, Amy and Hensel Nelson; and a sister-in-law, Sue Nelson.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at Peace Lutheran of Pigeon Falls with burial at Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, both in Pigeon Falls. Pastor Greg Ofsdahl officiated.

Visitation was held Monday, April 15, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
