Florence Agnes “Aggie” P. Literski
Florence Agnes “Aggie” P. Literski, 95, left this world December 23, 2023, to spend Christmas with her Savior, Jesus Christ, this year.
Florence was born April 28, 1928, as the 9th and final child to Joseph & Elizabeth (Reis) Henrich in Armour, SD. The family were farmers and moved to Iowa in 1932. Aggie was 23 years old when her mother committed suicide. This event had a profound and lasting effect on her. She met her future husband, Joseph Literski, when his brother, Leonard, married Aggie’s sister, Marcella. A relationship began in 1953 when they were godparents to their daughter, Bonita. Joe may have thought he was a confirmed bachelor at age 39, but that thought ended when they were wed, October 25, 1955, with an 11-year age difference. They resided in Galesville where they raised their five children. Aggie worked beside her husband at Joe’s Standard Station in Galesville. A storm in June of 1998 caused a tree to fall on their family home, damaging it beyond repair. This event was the beginning of major health issues for them both. In 2003, after 48 years of marriage, her beloved husband, Joe, died.
Aggie was a feisty, outspoken woman with a flare of a stubborn German temperament. She loved to play cards and her word search puzzle books. Prior to dementia, she had a magnificent memory. She was an avid letter writer and would delight in receiving letters and cards. Since 2015, her kids have taken her out to eat at different local restaurants once a month for their “sibling brunches”. Before this last year, she would take her daily walks in Trempealeau with her walker, no matter what the weather forecast was.
Aggie is survived by her two sons: Louis (Rhonda) Literski and Michael (Christine) Literski; her three daughters: Marilyn (Mark) Heinz, Peggy (Thomas) Daley and Katherine (Aaron) Lehrke; her seven grandchildren, in birth order: Jamie (Kyle) Brawner, Jodi (David) Lechelt, Holli (Ben) Kalmes, Michael (Vale) Literski, Joseph Literski, Cameron (Amanda) Daley and Michaela Daley; her 14 great -grandchildren, in birth order: Walter, Simon, Brynn, Levi, Coltyn, Cayden, Brielle, Bridgette, Stanley, Logan, Evelyn, Beckett, Jolie, and Layla; her 15th great grandchild, baby Daley, is expected in 2024. She is further survived by 47 nieces/nephews. She had a special relationship with her goddaughters, Bonita Walters and Pat Gosch; and her nieces: Kathy Crist, Connie Fredkove, Mary Snyder, Eleanor Olerich, Betty Riesselman and Jeanette Mandel.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; siblings/spouses; six nieces/nephews; and numerous friends.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Paul Molling, Katie Beahm P.A., Dr. Cynthia Dooley-Pehler and the staff of Mayo Health System for all the years of tender loving care they provided. Additional thanks to Mayo Hospice Team, Hope Stay Assisted Living and Marinuka Manor for everything they provided for mom and her family.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 20344 West Ridge Ave., Galesville. Visitation was from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at the church. Aggie’s final resting place with be beside her beloved Joe in Pine Cliff Cemetery. A luncheon was held in the basement hall, following Mass.
