Florence M. Lyga

With tears glistening in our eyes and sadness in our hearts, the family of Florence M. Lyga, 89, of Independence announce her passing from Earth on to the promised land, Monday, January 23, 2023, as she was surrounded by her family at the Trempealeau County Healthcare Center.

Florence was born in Lookout, April 12, 1933, to Gilbert and Gladys (Abrahamson) Julson. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Edmund Lyga, January 24, 1951, at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Independence. Together, the couple brought into this world three lovely daughters: Linda, Shelbie and Roselyn. Florence had a heart that was as big as her smile, and an avid work ethic that was evident in her Polish cleaning group in her younger years. Later, she worked in housekeeping at the Trempealeau County Healthcare Center until her retirement, and loved the friends that became family during her employment and later residence. Though Florence has left behind a part of her in each and everyone of us, her smile and genuine kindness she shared with others will always be treasured and missed the most.

Florence is survived by her husband of 72 years, Edmund; daughters: Linda Peterson, Shelbie (Tom Reedy), and Roselyn (Loren) Nelson; eight grandchildren: Stacy (John Doelle) Sokup, Tim Peterson, Amy (Tom) Laehn, Tasha (Tyler) Palkowski, Riley (Trish Flick) Kupka, Alissa (Jacob Clewein) Nelson, Christopher Nelson, and Mathew (Katherine) Nelson; 10 great-grandchildren: Courtney, Laurissa, Aliyah, Dayton, Lydia, Andrea, Kaylee, Sophia, Jaelyn and Annabelle; one great-great-granddaughter, Peyton; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Grant Lee, Leonard Julson, Gordon Julson, La Verne Julson, Gilman Julson, and Sam Julson; sisters: Tracy Waniorek, Lucille Julson, and Bernice Polus; son-in-law, Bill Peterson; and many in-laws.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Father George Thayilkuzhithottu officiated. Family and friends were invited for visitation one hour prior to the Mass at church. Burial will be at a later date in the church cemetery.
