Janice A. Gunderson
Janice Ann Gunderson, 76, formerly of Independence, passed away peacefully, October 25, 2024, at Elroy Health Services in Elroy, with her family at her side.
Janice was born to Harm and Annabelle Harms May 28, 1948, in Canova, SD. The family moved several times before settling in Independence. She graduated from Independence High School in 1966. Janice married Alfred Gunderson, June 12, 1965. Together, they raised three children. Though Janice and Alfred’s love for each other did not last, they parted ways in 1990, and together they raised incredible children of whom they were both proud.
Janice was a stay-at-home mom and later worked at NFO in Independence. After several years, she went back to school to become a LPN in Winona, MN. She graduated with honors in 1994. Janice worked as a LPN for several years, retiring in early the 2000s.
Janice had a big heart and she loved to cook for family and friends. She also loved traveling, card parties, garage sales, watching the Packers, needle work and sewing, water aerobics with friends, bowling, Christmas and going out to eat. She was an avid church goer and volunteered whenever possible.
Janice is survived by her children: Scott Gunderson, Wendy (Rick) Olson and Todd Gunderson; eight grandchildren: Andrea (James) Kraus, Mariah (Clayton Nowlen) Gunderson, Anna (Megan) Olson, Katie (Joey) Westfall, Alex Olson, Nicholas Olson, Olivia Gunderson, Isabelle Gunderson; two great-grandchildren: Tatum Kraus and Conrad Nowlen; her siblings: Norwin (Lynn) Harms, Darla (Brent) Enos; and former spouse, Alfred Gunderson.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings: Byron Harms, Jerry Harms and Bonnie Whiteford.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 12:00 p.m., at First Baptist Church, 36185 Abrams Street, Whitehall, with Pastor Rob Buhl officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m until the time of the service at church. Following the service, light refreshments will be served. Janice will be laid to rest in Lincoln Cemetery.
