Jeanette M. (Slabik) Moen

Jeanette Mae (Slabik) Moen, 88, of Blair, passed onto Heaven while being comforted by family, Monday, February 28, 2022, at Pigeon Falls Health Care Center in Pigeon Falls.

Jeanette was born May 22, 1933, in Traverse Valley, rural Independence, to Peter and Eleanor (Prokop) Slabik. Upon completing high school in Independence, she spent most of her working years at Winona Industries and later as an inspector at Northern Engraving in Galesville. She married Almer Moen, November 15, 1958, and they were married for over 40 years. Almer preceded Jeanette in death, September 25, 2000.

Jeanette was extremely independent and her age never prevented her from doing what she enjoyed. She loved to spend time outdoors, particularly during the warm months. Jeanette had a great affinity for gardening and, during the summer, would spend most days watering her many beautiful flowers and mowing her lawn. Jeanette took immense pride in maintaining an immaculate yard. When the weather turned cold, she enjoyed crocheting and was happy to gift her finished crafts to her loved ones.

Jeanette had an extraordinary love of animals that began while growing up on the farm. She wanted all animals to be part of a caring environment and have a good home. Jeanette owned several dogs over the years and especially adored poodles.

Jeanette found much delight in watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports, especially baseball. She took many trips to Milwaukee to watch the Braves play and always looked forward to traveling the country with friends and family. A favorite vacation spot was to Nashville where she was able to hear all of her favorite county music performers. More recently, her weekly trip to the beauty shop was a highlight and brought her tremendous joy.

Jeanette is survived by her daughter, Tammy (Eugene) Kindschy of rural Whitehall; her son, Randy (Mary) Gunderson of Independence; her sister, Marlette (friend, Gerry) Kunz of Pigeon Falls; her sister-in-law, Tina Slabik of Independence; eight grandchildren: David (Karri) Greenwold, Aaron (Miranda) Greenwold, Mandy (Matt) Hames, Scott (friend, Wendy) Gunderson, Eric (Cassandra) Gunderson, Jason (Erin) Gunderson, Kelli (Nick) Kamholz and Kari (Matt) Pedersen; fifteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jeanette was preceded in death by her son, Gary Gunderson; and daughter-in-law, Bonnie Gunderson; her brothers: Edward and Jerome Slabik; her sister, Judy Conover; and brother-in-law, Al Conover.
