Jerome “Joe” Hanson

Jerome “Joe” Hanson, 72, of Blair, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at his home, after a short battle with cancer.

Jerome was born September 26, 1949, in Whitehall, to Everett and Dolores (Roessler) Hanson. In 1967, he graduated from Blair High School. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. Later, Joe did grad studies in Physiology and Botany at UW-Eau Claire and UW-Madison. After moving to the farm, he studied Farm Business and Production Management through Western Wisconsin Technical College out of La Crosse. Joe married Cindy Lee of Chippewa Falls, in 1971.

Joe followed his father’s heart to keep the farm going. Joe milked cows for 25 years and cash cropped for 21 years. Farming was his passion, and he was an AMPI member since 1975; Divisional and Regional Director for AMPI; and chairman for AMPI Promotion Research. He also served on the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board. Joe was a life member of the FFA Alumni and served as Vice President and President for the local Blair Chapter. He handed out many milk cartons during the Blair Cheese Fest parade and was a fabulous milkshake maker! After selling the cows in 2000, Joe worked 15 years for and with Bob Bonnewell of Joe Coulee Enterprises, a petroleum storage industry.

Joe was an honorable man, true to his word, with a gentle heart. He loved just about everything around him, his many adventures, fishing, travels, and of course his sons and their families.

Joe will forever remain in the hearts of his wife, Cindy; son, Dominic (Svetlana) of Destin, FL; son, Damien (Amanda) of Bend, OR; granddaughters: Eva Madalyn and Mila Judel of Destin, FL; and grandson, Henry Warwick of Bend, OR; brothers: William (Delpha) of Hudson, WI, Mark of Blair, and Paul of Seattle; sister, Sue (Don) Jenkins of Corvallis, OR; and sister-in-law, Holly Hanson of Lakeside, AZ; nieces: Jodi (Steve) Barnet and children: Shaeleigh and Tyler, Jenny (Tracy) Hanson, and Keely (Greg) Deacon; nephew, Freeman (Julie) Jenkins and son, Calum; the Roessler cousins; the Lee relatives on Cindy’s side; Travis Eckman, who Joe called his “surrogate son”; and the many friends made through the years.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Thomas; and his mother-in-law, Ima Lee.

A Celebration of Life Well Lived will be held Saturday, May 21, 2022, at the Schroeder Shelter located in Blair Park. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with a “Remembrance” beginning at 11:00 a.m.
