Joseph R. “Ray” Shaffer Jr.

 

Joseph Raymond “Ray” Shaffer Jr., 75, of Whitehall, passed away Saturday, February 12, 2022, in his home.

Ray was born February 4, 1947, in Johnstown, PA, to Joseph R. Shaffer Sr. and Helen (Hauck) Edwards. He enjoyed going to the shop, traveling, fishing and camping, but what Ray loved most of all was spending time with his family. For the last 36 years, he made an annual trip to Vintondale, PA, where he spent time on the Rager Farm with all of his family and friends.

Ray is survived by his aunt, Joanne (Honey) and uncle, Ben Rager; aunt, Zoe and uncle, Roger Janis, and uncle, Tom Hauck; his siblings: Betty and Tom Rounsley, Kathy and Greg Bobik, Jeff and Mendy Shaffer, Greg and Sue Shaffer, Roger and Ann Shaffer and Donna Shaffer; his five children: Joe Shaffer III and Cheri (Erickson), Kimberly Winker, Christine and Mark Vicary, Robert and Kelli (Henke) and Michelle and Eric Herman. Ray also had 15 grandchildren: Brittney, Brady, Catherine, Courtney, Sarah, Jake, Samantha, Alyssa, Luke, Addison, Emma, Bailey, Allison, Abbigayle and Avvia; and four great-grandchildren: Aubrey, Ryan, Everett and Walker, to whom he was known as “Pappy”. He will always be remembered as the patriarch of the family; Ray is further survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews;

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by numerous aunts and uncles; his sister, Carol Rhine; and brother, Bill Shaffer.

A Celebration of Life for Ray will be held Saturday,  March 5, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Dani’s City Café in Whitehall.
