Joshua “Josh” R. Sendelbach

Joshua “Josh” Robert Sendelbach, 25, of La Crosse, formerly of Whitehall, died Sunday, July 27, 2025.
Joshua was born May 30, 2000, in Burnsville, MN, to Robert and Audra (Engen) Sendelbach. A graduate of Whitehall Memorial High School, Josh was studying to become a Registered Nurse at Western Technical College, where he had recently earned a place on the Dean’s List. While in school, he worked the night shift as a paramedic in the Gundersen ER, where his strong work ethic, steady presence, and contagious smile made him a valued member of the Gundersen ER family. The Gundersen team was like a second family to him.
Outside of work and school, Josh was a passionate reader who especially loved philosophy, and he enjoyed deep conversations about the ideas he discovered in his reading. He also loved hiking and playing chess. Josh adored his pets: Leo, Joey and his rescued cat, Linda.
Josh was the one who brought lightness and humor wherever he went. His kindness, genuineness and ability to steady others in chaos left an indelible mark on everyone blessed to know him. He was loved beyond measure and will be missed more than words can ever express.
Joshua is survived by his parents, Robert and Audra Sendelbach of Whitehall; a brother, Tyler (Yamileet) Sendelbach; a sister, Jessica (Garrett) Kees; three nieces: Camilla, Catalina and Chloe Sendelbach; his paternal grandmother, Rita Sendelbach; his maternal grandparents, Andrew and Sharon Engen; and his Godparents, Craig and Kristin Sosalla.
Joshua was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, James Sendelbach; and his uncle, Bradley Engen.
A Mass of Christian burial was held Monday, August 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Saint John’s Catholic Church, with burial in the Lincoln Cemetery, both in Whitehall. Father George officiated.
Visitation was Sunday, August 3, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall, and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
