Larry J. Heffner

Larry John Heffner, 87, of Trempealeau, passed away October 3, 2023, at Hospice Serenity House in Tomah.

Larry was born September 25, 1936, to Elwood and Vira (Welda) Heffner. He graduated as Salutatorian of his 1954 Galesville-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School class, and even helped build the current high school in 1953. Larry married Dolorous M. Deutsch, August 3, 1957, at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Trempealeau. He worked from age 18 to 55 in dairy products manufacturing in Galesville, and retired from Babson Bros. in 1991.

Larry most enjoyed his time as an outdoorsman and could be found in the woods or on the water when he wasn’t working. He introduced all four of his children to hunting and fishing and they enjoyed many a fall hunt together here at home, and many hunting trips out west. Larry settled in one of his favorite western spaces, Broadus, MT, in 2000. He lived part-time between Broadus and Trempealeau for fourteen years, enjoying “Big Sky Country” and dear friends, as well as time at home with his family.

Larry is survived by his wife, Dolorous; his sons: Dean (Terry), Daniel, Joseph (Perian); and daughter, Shirley; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elwood and Vira (Welda) Heffner.

Larry’s family extends sincere appreciation to all friends and family for your kind words, thoughts, and prayers, and especially to all the staff and caregivers at Hospice Serenity House in Tomah.
