Lawrence “Larry” D. Trowbridge
Lawrence “Larry” David Trowbridge, 68, died peacefully, May 28, 2023, at United Hospital in St. Paul, MN, from cancer.
Born November 1, 1954, in Arcadia, Larry was the son of Robert H. and Rosemary (Marcou) Trowbridge. He grew up in Centerville, graduated from G-E-T High School, served three years in the U.S. Army and continued his education at Minnesota State College Southeast in Winona, MN.
After completing his education, Larry moved to St. Paul where he worked for the State of Minnesota for 29 years as a hospital auditor. Following his retirement, Larry remained in St. Paul until his death.
Larry was warm, soft-spoken, and extremely generous and giving. There wasn’t much he wouldn’t do for family and friends. He was best known for his love of astronomy. Many a night in Centerville, Larry would cart his huge telescope out in Dad’s yard for family and friends to view whatever happened to be in the night sky. He was also a big fan of the Minnesota Renaissance Festival held annually in Shakopee, MN. He and his best friends, Anne and Bruce Cornish, seldom missed the celebration.
Larry was also an avid reader, historian, sports fan, and spent many a night with family playing Canasta or Pinochle (cards) and indulging in his sister’s phenomenal homemade chocolate chip cookies and fudge. He will be missed around the table.
He is survived by seven siblings: Carron (Ronald) Moneyhan, Trempealeau; Bob Trowbridge, Las Vegas, NV; Kay Bjorge, Ontonagon, MI; Jim (Sylvia) Trowbridge, La Crosse; John Trowbridge, San Jose, CA; Terry (Tina) Trowbridge, La Crosse; and Jerry Trowbridge, Winona, MN. He is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; and his niece, Suzanne Marie Moneyhan.
A special thanks to Anne and Bruce Cornish as well as the staff of the ICU at United Hospital. In addition to being Larry’s best friends, Bruce and Anne have been incredibly helpful managing Larry’s estate. The staff of United Hospital provided compassionate care for Larry during the last week of his life, and we’re all grateful.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be held July 16, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Centerville Curling Club, W24854 Wis. Hwy. 54, Galesville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given the day of the Celebration of Life for a memorial for Larry or may be forwarded to Jim Trowbridge, 2330 Mississippi Street, La Crosse, WI 54601.
