Leslie “Coty” T. Mathson

 

Leslie “Coty” T. Mathson, 83, of Blair, died Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at Gundersen Tri-County Hospital in Whitehall.

Leslie was born November 19, 1938, in Blair, to Harry and Mildred (Thompson) Mathson. He attended Blair High School and was confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Blair.

Leslie enlisted in the U.S. Air force after school, and was sent to Newfoundland to work with traffic control. After his military service, he returned to Blair and married Marlene Hoff, July 7, 1962, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Arcadia. Together they raised three sons. He worked at Kenosha, Swifts, Tri-State Construction and finished 20 years of bridge construction with Lunda.

Leslie enjoyed bowling, hunting duck, pheasant, rabbit, deer, grouse, and trout fishing. He loved his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Leslie is survived by his wife, Marlene; three sons: Layne, Mark, and Patrick (Deborah Clare); his brother, Keith (Penny); three grandchildren: Jessica (Chris) Collins, Casey (Megan Schultz) Mathson, and Michael Johnson; three great-grandchildren: Brynn Collins, Axtyn Collins, and Drayce Collins; step-grandchildren: Erica Schuch and Nathan (Katie) Schuch; step-great-granddaughters: Kiylee Phillipson and Aubrey Schuch; sister-in-law, Sonja Nezworski; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Leslie was preceded in death by two sisters: Sally Mathson and Linda Sokolosky; his niece, Sara Mathson; and Mark’s significant other, Sidney Schuch.

A Celebration of Life will be held May 14, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Riverside Memorial Park in Blair. Prior to the Celebration of Life, burial with military rites will be conducted by Knudtson-Mattison American Legion Post #231, at Rest Haven Cemetery in Blair at noon. Father Jeyaseelan Yobu (Father Jey) will officiate.

Jack Funeral Home in Blair is assisting the family with arrangements.
