Marcus P. Woychik

Marcus Peter Woychik, 87, of Independence, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, July 3, 2024, in his sleep after watching baseball on TV.

Marcus was born November 8, 1936, to Peter and Mary (Killian) Woychik. On June 18, 1958, he married Carol Rothering, and together had six children. They later divorced. In 1998, he met Rita O’Reilly, and together they had one child.

Marcus spent most of his working career in construction, but retired from Tri-City Sanitation at the age of 80, after 25 years of employment. He was a huge sports fan. He loved watching the Cubs and even had an entire room in his home devoted to the Green Bay Packers. Marcus was a collector of many things and enjoyed attending auctions.

Marcus is survived by his children: Daniel (Nancy), Michael (Cindy), Jeffrey, Sharon (Mark) Robinson, and Kellie (Joshua Klingel); stepchildren: Cory (Natasha Pierzina) Bautch, Sean Bautch, David Bautch, Patrick Bautch, Meagan (Gordon) Wells, and Becky Bautch; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Irene Dittrich; many nieces and nephews; and his newest grandson, Dominic.

He was preceded in death by two children: Stephen and David; brothers: Albin and Adolph; half-siblings: Alphonse, Edward, and Caroline; ex-wife, Carol Wolfe; and partner, Rita O’Reilly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, July 12, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Independence with Reverend George Thayilkuzhithottu officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Edison Funeral Home, and one hour prior to Mass at church on Friday. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
