Margaret M. Matchey

Margaret Mary Matchey, 88, of Whitehall, died Monday, July 28, 2025, at Gundersen Tri-County Hospital in Whitehall.
Margaret was born November 21, 1936, in Whitehall, to August and Mary (Klimek) Morchinek. She married Richard D. Matchey, October 2, 1962, in Independence. Richard preceded Margaret in death, November 1, 2001.
Margaret graduated from UW – Eau Claire with a degree in education and went on to teach for over 40 years with her longest tenure at Ss. Peter and Paul Parochial school in Independence. Margaret was an active member of Saint John’s Catholic Church in Whitehall. She enjoyed her many houseplants and spending time with her family. Margaret is best remembered for her quick witted humor, inspiring laughter for anyone with whom she visited.
Margaret is survived by her children: William (Cathy) Matchey of Whitehall, Daniel Matchey of Stetsonville, Mary Matchey of Whitehall and Nancy (Chad) Schmidt of Shiocton; seven grandchildren: Josh Back, Grace Back, Morgan Back, Nathan (Cierra) Schmidt, Caden Schmidt, Dawson Schmidt and Bennett Schmidt; two great-grandchildren: Nash and Alora Schmidt; two step-grandsons: Casey and Travis Reininger; and two brothers: Lawrence and August Morchinek, both of Cudahy.
In addition to her parents and husband, Margaret was preceded in death by a son, John Matchey; a grandson, Rhett Back; and a sister, Rosie Mueller.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Saint John’s Catholic Church, with burial in Lincoln Cemetery, both in Whitehall. Father George will officiate. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
