Martha was born October 15. 1949, in Whitehall, to Willie A. and Florence E. (Goplin) Johnson. She attended Whitehall public schools, graduating in 1968. Following graduation, she attended Luther College in Decorah, IA, for one year, then Massey School of Fashion Design in Atlanta, GA. During her years at Massey, she traveled Europe and developed her appreciation of British culture, returning several times. Martha was especially fond of the beauty of the “Lake District” in Cumbria, England.
Martha married Gilford Moen Evans, September 21, 1974, in Whitehall, and they later divorced. On September 28, 1986, she married Robert Felt at Olrich Gardens in Madison. Although they later divorced, they remained great friends and supportive of each other. Early in her career, Martha was employed by many fashion stores. More recently she was employed by the University of Wisconsin Hospital’s Home Nutrition Program and Central Supply, retiring in January of 2023. Martha took great pride in being a “good worker”, a phrase she took to heart from her grandmother’s obituary.
Martha enjoyed walking, reading, music, art, watching historical drama and completing the New York Times daily crossword puzzle. She will be remembered for her generous nature and her giving ways. Martha routinely made donations to numerous charities and organizations.
Martha is survived by her brother, Andrew (Mary) Johnson; a nephew, Lucas (Ashley) Johnson; two great-nephews: Preston and Henry Johnson; and a great-niece, Lily Johnson.
In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ludvig and Ruth Goplin and Theodore and Ida Johnson; along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.
