Martin A. Ehrat

Martin Albert Ehrat, 78, of rural Waumandee, died at his home, surrounded by his family, October 3, 2023.

Martin was born in Switzerland, March 2, 1945, to Erwin and Maria (Sigg) Ehrat. He moved first to Canada in his 20s, until going on a visit to the United States, where he met the love of his life, Janine Moinat. The couple were united in marriage in Wilton, WI, September 4, 1976, and purchased the Moinat farm in rural Waumandee, where they planted their roots, raised their family, and operated their farm.

The Ehrats were a dairy farm family who sold their milk to AMPI until the dairy barn tragically burned down in March of 2001. Martin continued to farm doing cash crop and raising chickens for Gold ‘N Plump and later Pilgrim’s Pride. Martin and Janine sold the farm to their son, Timothy, in 2021, though the couple stayed in their home and continued to help farm.

Martin served 13 years with the Waumandee Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Waumandee Trail Blazers. In his spare time, Martin enjoyed driving everywhere and anywhere, sightseeing and going on many summer adventures with his family. On Sundays, Martin liked to take his pontoon out on the Mississippi River and spend the day with his wife, kids and grandkids. When encouraged, Martin and his family would take many family camping trips to various places. He was a devout Christian and in his later years, liked to watch Sunday services on his TV. Our family is comforted to know that he is now in Heaven with his parents and other loved ones who have preceded him in death.

Martin is survived by his wife of 47 years, Janine; children: Phillip (Kimberly), Susan (Dave) Ehrat-Glenzinski, Eric (Selina), and Timothy (Bethany); grandchildren: Tyler, Trevor, Tanner, and TJ Ehrat, Jaylen and Dawson Glenzinski, Teigan, Reese, Porter, Mavrik, and Bodey Ehrat, Skylar and Corbin Ehrat; brothers: Kurt, Richard (Verena), Paul, and Andrew (Marlise) Ehrat; sister, Monica Phillips-Ehrat; mother-in-law, Jeannine Moinat; brother-in-law, Maurice (Stacey) Moinat; sister-in-law, Helene Moinat; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Michael Moinat; and sisters-in-law: Evelyne and Rhoda Ehrat.
