Mary L. Sobotta

Mary Lou Sobotta, 89, of Arcadia, passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Dove Healthcare in Osseo, under the care of St. Croix Hospice.

Mary Lou was born in Arcadia, June 1, 1935, to George and Margaret (Zeller) Abts. After graduating from high school, Mary Lou was united in marriage to David D. Sobotta, October 13, 1956, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Arcadia. Together, the couple was blessed with over 68 years of marriage, two children and four grandchildren. Mary Lou worked with State Bank of Arcadia for six years prior to her employment with Trempealeau Electrical Cooperative, where she worked until her retirement in 1995. Dave and Mary Lou retired to Lehigh Acres, FL, where they enjoyed the sun for 25 years. Mary Lou loved to bake and cook, and often tinkered with many craft projects in her spare time. She enjoyed golfing, walking, and was especially fond of caring for her grandsons, toting them to extra-curricular activities, sporting events and supporting them in each of their life endeavors. Mary Lou was devoted to her faith, and her family takes comfort in knowing that she is at peace — until we meet again.

Mary Lou is survived by her loving husband, Dave of Arcadia; daughter, Ann (Scott) Powers of Chippewa Falls; son, Sam (Anita) Sobotta of Arcadia; grandsons: Jordan (Amber) Manka of Trempealeau, Jared (Megan) Manka; and great-grandson, Jayce, due soon of Whitehall; Cole Sobotta and Max Sobotta, both of Arcadia; sister, Jane Abts of Arcadia; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six sisters: Moraine Suchla, Dawn Kostner, Margie Rumpel, Evelyn Laehn, Catherine Brenner and Carmen Verhagen; four brothers: Melvin, Eugene, William and Daniel “Butch” Abts; and many other relatives.
