Merlin “Mert” McWilliams

Merlin “Mert” McWilliams died at home, June 16, 2025, at the age of 90.
Merlin was born November 6, 1934, at home in May Coulee, rural Hixton, to James and Julia (Thomley) McWilliams. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith, a faith he would carry throughout his life. In 1953, Mert graduated from Hixton High School.
Merlin farmed in Beaver Creek, Jackson County, on the home farm until moving to Pigeon Falls. Mert was then employed by a Black River Falls auction service, a job he really enjoyed.
In 1987, he married Virginia Krohn. They later divorced. However, they remained together until his death.
Survivors include Jean Schroeder, his sister; two nieces: Sara (Tony) Warmka and Rita (Wade) Lambrigtsen; and five great-nieces and nephews: Greta, Roman, Naomi, Aaron and Mia; as well as his ex-wife, Virginia Krohn; and other beloved family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim (1972) and Julia (1977) McWilliams; and brother-in-law, Ardell Schroeder.
His family wants to thank Shaleen for her care and attention during his final years. They also thank the Pigeon Falls Community for all their assistance.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m., at Upper Pigeon Creek Lutheran Church. Following the service, burial will take place at Upper Pigeon Creek Lutheran Cemetery. All are invited to the church for luncheon and fellowship that will follow.
