Michael D. Engevold

Michael Duane Engevold, 80, of Pigeon Falls, died Monday, September 6, 2021, at Mayo Clinic Health System – Oakridge, Osseo.

Michael was born April 30, 1941, in Pigeon Falls to Maynard and Hazel (Engen) Engevold. He married Donna Mae Smart, March 23, 1963, in Milwaukee. Donna preceded Michael in death,  May 15, 2019. They built a beautiful life together and enjoyed 56 wonderful years of marriage.

Michael served four years in the U.S. Navy. He worked at Rexnord in West Milwaukee where he retired after 40 years as a machine operator. After retirement, he moved back to Pigeon Falls where he spent the majority of his time outdoors at his family farm, hunting, checking trail cameras, brush hogging and working food plots. Michael enjoyed telling stories about his time served in the U.S. Navy, his numerous hunting trips out west and the big bucks he shot out at the farm. He also enjoyed spending time with the kids that Donna babysat — the Lisowski, Matejka and Peterson families quickly turned into bonus grandchildren for him.

Michael is survived by two children: Mark (Patty) Engevold and DeAnn (Craig) Koellen; his grandchildren: Ashlyn (Caleb) Streich, Tanner Paulson, Megan (Sever) Nysven, Katie Engevold, Brandon (Cora) Engevold and Heidi (Wyatt) Stade; his great grandsons: Trenton and Brody Streich, Bentley Nysven and Mason Stade.

In addition to his parents and wife, Michael was preceded in death by his brother, Steven; his sister-in-law, Amy; his brother-in-law, George; and his nephew, Scotty.

An outdoor visitation was held Friday, September 10, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Peace Lutheran of Pigeon Falls, followed by a graveside service at Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, both in Pigeon Falls. Pastor Mary Ann Bowman officiated.

Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall is assisting the family with arrangements.
