Nelson “Nels” F. Richason

Nelson “Nels” Forest Richason, 95, of Galesville, died Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Marinuka Manor in Galesville.

Nelson was born January 16, 1928, in Port Andrew, WI, to Robert and Roxa (Jones) Richason. He served in the U.S. Army. On July 6, 1952, Nelson married June Johnson in Livingston, WI. For many years, the couple resided in Galesville. Nels was an accomplished writer, having written three books and was a past Trempealeau County Board member. Prior to retirement, he was employed by the State of Wisconsin as a counselor for the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation.

Survivors are his wife, June; three sons: Stan, Jim (Sue), John (Anne Gisvold); two daughters: Kathy (Larry) Durfey, Patty (Dean) Sass; seven grandchildren: Kevin (Christy) Olson, Justin Olson, Tyler (Kristen) Sass, Megan Richason, Andy Richason, Cooper Richason, Devin Richason; three great-grandchildren: Jackson Olson, Nora and Warren Sass; and a brother, Byron Richason.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters: Velma Richason, Melva Bauer, Norma Richason, Catherine Richason; and two brothers: Theron Richason and Vernon Richason.

A memorial gathering will be held Monday, June 12, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at Zwickey Funeral Homes, Galesville. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Centerville.
