Norman D. Johnson
Norman D. Johnson, 87, of Eleva, died Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Mayo Clinic Hospital – Luther Campus, in Eau Claire.
Norman was born May 29, 1936, in Chimney Rock, the son of Clarence and Minnie (Knudtson) Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed at Chimney Rock Lutheran Church, and he attended Chimney Rock School and Independence High School. Norman married Kathleen (Evans) Johnson, October 21, 1961, at Central Lutheran Church in Mondovi.
Norman joined the U.S. Army and served in Korea just as the war ended. After his service in the U.S. Army, Norman worked at Lunda Construction for over a decade before starting his own business in 1975, Johnson Construction, where he worked until he retired. Norman was outstanding at running large construction projects, woodworking, hunting, fishing and anything outdoors. Most of all, he cherished time spent at his resort home on Big Chetek Lake.
He is survived by his brother, Larry Johnson of Eleva; sister, Delores Cleasby of Eleva; children: Gregg (Kathy) Johnson of Herndon, VA, and Ann Marie (Dan McHale) Johnson of Zanesville, OH; four grandchildren: Brett Johnson, Maria Johnson, Alyssa Johnson, and Lauren Johnson; two great-grandchildren: Daniel Johnson and Charlotte Johnson.
Norman was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Kathleen Johnson; his parents: Clarence and Minnie Johnson; siblings: Clifford Johnson, Donald Johnson, Gerald Johnson, Marian Ulness and Marilyn Johnson.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at Chimney Rock Lutheran Church, rural Strum. Pastor David Sands and Monica Dejno co-officiated. Visitation was from 10:00 a.m. to the time of service at church on Saturday. Burial was conducted, with Military Honors presented by the Hopland-Moen American Legion Post #459, at the church cemetery.
