Paul R. Hanson
Paul Richard Hanson, 69, passed away at home in Independence, March 29,2024, after a short battle with leukemia.
Paul was the youngest of three sons, born to Erling and Emelia (Skoyen) Hanson of Fly Creek, Whitehall. He graduated from Whitehall High School in 1973. As a young man, Paul was funny and mischievous. He often entertained the nieces and nephews, sometimes tying them to the big maple tree in Erling and Emelia’s yard before their parents came to get them.
Paul toured waterfalls in northern Wisconsin and some of his photographs and articles were published in various magazines. He worked with his father on the family farm for many years, milking many cows. Paul also worked with a logging company and taught at a ski resort. He was known as a good, strong worker, and as the giver of the best bear hugs. In his later years, Paul kept more to himself. He experienced physical pain related to Lymes disease.
After his cancer diagnosis, Paul chose to deal with his treatment privately, and he appreciated the care he received at Gundersen Lutheran Health Care. The family is also grateful for his neighbors in Independence for their offerings of food and company. A Celebration of Life is planned for a later date.
Paul is survived by two brothers: Ron (Mary Olstad) and Jon (Elaine Wicka), and their children: Leah and Shaina, and Dawn, Tim, and Heather.
