Peter “Pete” J. Fernholz

Peter “Pete” James Fernholz, 72, of Lakeville, MN, passed away unexpectedly, July 1, 2023, at his son’s home in Minnetonka, MN.

Peter was born January 13, 1951, in La Crosse, and was adopted by the late Kenneth and Luanna Fernholz of Arcadia. In 1969, Peter graduated from Arcadia High School and continued his education by receiving a B.S. of Environmental & Public Health from UW – Eau Claire. During his time at UW – Eau Claire, he met his wife of over 50 years, Karen (Ward) Fernholz.

For 42 years, Pete traveled the world while creating over twenty patents, all in the service of Ecolab. He loved outdoor activities including BWCAW trips, fishing, camping, golfing, and motorcycling with his sons and grandchildren.

Pete had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and was an active member of several churches, both in the U.S. and UK. Upon retirement from Ecolab, he traded in his lab coat for Hawaiian Tommy Bahama shirt, whether he was fishing or riding his motorcycle. Peter’s family invites you, if you wish, to wear a Hawaiian shirt to the services in remembrance of him.

Pete is survived by wife, Karen (Ward) Fernholz; sons: Andrew (Lurleen) Fernholz, Daniel (Jen) Fernholz, Jonathan (Kristy) Fernholz; and grandchildren: Tanner Fuchs, Mackenzie Fernholz and Evan Luhman.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 15, 2023, at 12:00 p.m., at Christ Church, 12925 Johnny Cake Ridge Rd., Apple Valley, MN, with the gathering of family and friends, starting at 10:00 a.m. A Celebration of Life for Pete will continue, following the service.
