Quinton “Buddy Quinn” L. Affeldt
Quinton “Buddy Quinn” Leland Affeldt, 83, of rural Blair, died Tuesday, July 30, 2024, in his home.
Quinton was born August 20, 1940, in Galesville, to Harvey and Corinne (Greenwold) Affeldt. He married Joyce L. Konkel, November 14, 1964, in Winona, MN. Joyce preceded Quinton in death, January 6, 2014.
Quinton was a self-employed truck driver for many companies and also had his own business hauling logs, farming and raising pigs and angus cows. He was a musician all of his life and played at many local venues. Quinton enjoyed hunting and fishing and took great pride in his 1997 Dodge truck that he would drive around the valleys up to his last days. He loved the country life.
Buddy recorded “I Need An Angel” and “Rivertown” in Nashville in 1963. It was released on Coulee Records and filled jukeboxes and record players. He recorded “Nobobdy Wants To Be A Rolling Stone” and “Loneliest Man” in 1973 in Texas. Buddy recorded his last full album in Tennessee in 1999, and it was released across the country.
Buddy opened shows for many legends at the old Oasis in Osseo including Leroy Van Dyke and others. He played in clubs all across the Midwest. His music influenced many newer artists in the Midwest.
Buddy played at the Whitehall Lions Club Variety Show for many years, and people probably did not realize who they were listening to. A lot of people knew his face but did not realize they were listening to a long time area resident and did not know the songs they were listening to were recorded in Nashville, the “Country and Western Music Capital of the World”, three decades ago.
After a long musical career that included several near misses with hits, Buddy Quinn – Quinton Affeldt, when he is off stage, is thinking about recording again. He will be missed.
Quinton is survived by his children: Queleen (fiancé, Darren Daucsavage) Affeldt, Quinn (Betty) Affeldt and Quinzell (fiancee`, Amy Otterson) Affeldt; his grandchildren: Austin Kalina, Amber Kalina, Aspen Kalina, Jaden Otterson, Amelia Sommer, Tavin Affeldt and Estella Affeldt; his great-grandchildren: Alexis Rhadons, Landen Kalina, Ava Kalina, Adalyn Locke, Addika Winslow, Rylynn Linenberg, Aria Linenberg, Andalynn Scott and Mia Kalina; and his great-great-grandchild, Nova Kalina.
In addition to his parents and wife, Quinton was preceded in death by his grandparents, Elmer and Wilma Affeldt.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at Jack Funeral Home, with burial in the Rest Haven Cemetery, both in Blair. Pastor Eldon Simonson will officiate. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
