Richard “Dick” G. Krackow

Richard “Dick” G. Krackow, 79, passed away peacefully, in the early morning hours of April 25, 2024.

Richard was born July 23, 1944, in Arcadia, the son of Henry and Esther (Putz) Krackow. Richard had many ventures throughout his life, but none compare to his love for sheep farming. While in high school, he was involved with the local 4H program and found his true calling as a shepherd. While this was his deepest passion, Richard also had business ventures related to antiquities, real estate, English Setter hunting dogs and auctioneering. Whether at the auction house, or somewhere in the community, many enjoyed the lively and light hearted atmosphere his auctions brought.

Breeding and raising purebred English Setters also became a very enjoyable venture, with many puppies dispersed throughout the country. For many fall seasons, he could be found in field or forest, his flock of hunting dogs at his feet, chasing grouse and pheasant. Dick’s real estate ventures within Arcadia and the surrounding area were also known to many and had lasting impact for the community, including multiple apartment complexes and numerous property exchanges from one generation of home or business owners to the next.

The farm, in the family for 100+ years, will remain in the family. It will be maintained by nephew Rodney (Sharon) Malpert; great nephew Bradley (Heather) Malpert, their three children; and great nephew Adam (Kirsten) Malpert.

Surviving family include his niece, Marsha Ballentine (Krackow); nephew, Rodney (Sharon) Malpert; nephew, Lonnie (Debra) Krackow; niece, Cindy Curran (Malpert); nephew, Glenn (Julie) Krackow; niece, Renee Malpert; niece, Jenny (Buddy) Huckabee. He is also survived by numerous great and several great-great nieces and nephews, as well as one great-great-great nephew.

Preceding Dick in death were his parents, Henry and Esther Krackow; two brothers: Glenn and Lyle Krackow, his sister-in-law, and Lyle’s wife, Elaine Krackow; his sister, Lois (Krackow) Irick; and his niece, Kathy Krackow.

Per Dick’s wishes, there is to be no ceremony. Rather, a large get-together will be held for all friends and family on the family farm at a later date. Dick’s memory will forever live on within the hearts and minds of his ‘flock’.

Cremation Society of Wisconsin, Altoona is assisting the family. Online condolences may be shared at www.cremationsociety-wi.com.
